Tribal Sexual Assault Services Program
MIWSAC provides culturally-specific and comprehensive training and technical assistance to Tribal Sexual Assault Services Program grantees of the Office on Violence Against Women. Our staff is available to assist tribes and tribal organizations in building culturally responsive services to their tribal community.
Grantees support and access to products and technical assistance comes from a variety of ways that include the following:
- Providing basic and/or advanced training to tribal communities on sexual assault issues across the lifespan to assist in healing and shaping a culturally appropriate response.
- Culturally specific training, technical assistance, information, resources, and referrals.
- Development of community-based solutions to address issues associated with the sexual assault of adult and adolescent American Indian and Alaska Native people.
- On-site and remote T/TA, web-based resources, and peer-to-peer support opportunities drawing from the MIWSAC expertise and large community networking pool.
- Assisting programs in enhancing their responses, planning, development, implementation, and enhancement.
- Provide sample forms, policies, procedures, and protocol.
- Monthly virtual networking Connect and Reflect opportunities with other tribal sexual assault advocacy programs.
- Public awareness of sexual violence and sex trafficking in tribal communities.
- Responding to a history of trauma through the teachings of our ancestors.
- Provide 40 Hour Native-Specific Sexual Assault Advocacy Training at no cost to participants.
- Resource manuals and public awareness materials on sex trafficking in Indian Country.
- Best practices for working with Native LGBTQ and Two Spirit survivors materials and webinar.
